history and culture

A territory rich in history too.
Riccione is not only the capital of summer holidays; it also offers interesting cultural itineraries. The history and culture in its inland villages and boroughs, majestic fortresses and precious monuments bear witness to the rich artistic heritage of this territory.
Between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, two great seignories, the Malatesta and Montefeltro Seignories, gave us the fascinating fortresses, churches and works of art found in the area in what was, to all intents and purposes, a period of cultural and artistic renewal.
>> quality food and wine: Romagna is a territory that offers top quality, traditional local products such as DOC wines, cheeses like squacquerone (a soft cheese) and fossa cheese, extra-virgin olive oil, organic honey and sweet nectarines.
>> churches and castles: Riccione has a charming castle - Castello degli Agolanti - that has recently been fully renovated. The most important church is the church of San Martino, built in 1237.
>> historical villas: visitors should visit Villa Mussolini, which is close to the centre and currently houses a museum and exhibition space. Also worth seeing are Villa Franceschi, which has quality external decorations, and Villa Lodi Fe that hosts the Ilaria Alpi Television Journalism Prize and the Riccione Teatro Association.
>> museums/archaeological sites: the Territory Museum, which houses the most important vestiges from prehistory to Roman times in Riccione and its surroundings, is in the Centro Culturale della Pesa. Also worth visiting is the archaeological site in San Lorenzo in Strada.
